How To Prepare For Ear Wax Removal Appointment
Use Olive Oil Drops & Not Cotton Buds
It is important to soften ear wax before your appointment as it helps with the grip of the microsuction making it easier and a more comfortable procedure.
In particular, we recommend 'Earol ' spray as it comes with a very useful applicator.
How To Apply Drops
Tilt your head and squeeze up to five drops into the ear.
Leave for a few minutes and then wipe away any excess residue.
Repeat drops 1-2 times daily over a period of 4-5 days (ideally leading up to your appointment).
When Wax Is Stubborn
Very rarely, ear wax does not respond to olive oil and is too hard/ stubborn to be removed.
In the above scenario, we will either ask you to use olive oil drops for a further week or Sodium Bicarbonate drops.
Sometimes we may recommend Hydrogen Peroxide drops (Otex Express) however this should not be used for longer then 3-4 days.
Unsuccessful Removal
On the rare occurrence there are further issues within the ear preventing the removal of the wax, imaging from inside the ear will be sent to your doctor for further investigation.
Please note if ear drops are not used in advance of appointment, chances of successful ear wax removal are much smaller. Client will still be charged for appointment.
